Nihal Yurtseven completed her undergraduate studies at Marmara University, Department of English Language Teaching and received her master's and doctoral degrees at Yildiz Technical University, Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Since the beginning of her doctoral studies, she focused on teachers’ design-oriented professional development and she wrote about one of the first doctoral dissertations about UbD (Understanding by Design) in Turkey. Her academic research interests include UbD-based school development, instructional design, professional learning communities, curriculum development and individual differences in learning. Yurtseven has published several scientific articles, book chapters and conference papers. She has conducted seminars, workshops and presentations at various educational institutions and conferences within the scope of the above-mentioned fields of study, with particular emphasis on the integration of UbD into schools (in different levels and branches). Yurtseven, who is also the coordinator of a TÜBİTAK project on the design-oriented professional development of teachers, is a faculty lecturer at Bahçeşehir University, Faculty of Educational Sciences.
